Blink had still not moved from behind the crates. He knew if he stayed there the guys would wonder where he'd gone and someone would come to find him sooner or later, but he stayed still. He had blown off Mari and he knew she'd be pissed too, but what did he really have to lose? He didn't care anymore if she hated or loved him, his heart had been stolen by someone else...

David and Lucky passed by an alleyway, hand in hand. The streetlight at that alley wasn't working, and so the entire street was in shadows for about a block.
"And then Les started singing a bunch of Medda's songs in his sleep," David finished, and Lucky laughed. She felt so much more at ease now.

Blink heard voices and he lifted his head off of his knees. He recognized them as David and Lucky. I swear, he thought to himself, I ain't nevah gonna be able ta get away from dis. He curled up behind the boxes so they wouldn't find him. He didn't think, this being the darkest alley, that anyone possibly could, but he took precautions anyway.

"Oh!" Lucky cried out, looking down at the ground outside the alleyway.
"What?!" David asked.
"My bracelet! I dropped it!" She bent down and began hunting for it. "It's too dark, I can't tell where it is."

Blink could hear her fumbling around in the dark. She was getting too close. He held his breath and waited for disaster to strike.

Lucky's hand hit something hard. "Ow!" she cried, grabbing her hand.
"What happened sweetie?" David asked, kneeling down and draping an arm over her back.
"My hand....I hit it against something....I think a crate," she responded, glaring in the direction of the crates.

Blink closed his eyes and leaned back against the wall. He was still not daring to breathe. He wanted to stay hidden for as long as possible.

"Did you find it yet?" David asked, now on his hands and knees, searching for the bracelet.
"No, not yet....wait!" Lucky gasped. "HaHA! Found it." She grabbed the bracelet and held it up in the air, then slipped it onto her wrist. She stood up and brushed the dust from her skirts.
David stood up and well and glanced down at his knees. "I can't tell how dirty my pants are, but I know they're now too dirty to go to Irving Hall," he said, laughing.
"Yeah, I'd imagine."
"Wanna just head straight over to Central Park?" he asked her, wrapping his arm around her waist.
She smiled and gave him a kiss. "All right."

Blinkwaited till they were gone and let his breath out in a long whoosh. He felt even worse now. He laid his head back on his knees and continued to mope. He knew it was a childish thing to do, but he didn't care at all right now.

David and Lucky walked to Central Park, which wasn't far from the alleyway where they'd been. They sat down on a bench and talked for a few moments, before David took a deep breath. "Lucky, I...."
"What?" she asked, curious.
He got off of the bench and pulled the ring from his pocket, then got down on one knee. Lucky gasped as he grabbed her left hand. "Lucky....will you.....will you marry me?"
She stared at the ring for a few seconds, then at him. "Yes," she finally said breathlessly, throwing her arms around his neck.

Blink finally fell asleep in the freezing cold alleyway.

After a few more moments at the park, David and Lucky decided to go to his apartment and share the good news with his parents. They headed down the sidewalk, but whenever Lucky shivered from the cold, David stopped. They were in front of the dark alleyway again. "Come on," he said, wrapping his coat around her shoulders. "Let's cut through this alley. It'll be quicker."

Blink was dead asleep behind the crates, his breathing barely audible. The snow had been coming down all day and night and he was covered up to his chest. His hat also had a glob of snow on top of it.

Lucky walked quickly behind David. The alleyway was long, the snow was coming down hard, and the temperature seemed to drop with every passing second.
"Oh crap...." she heard David say.
"What?" she asked, gripping his hand tighter.
"The streetlight at the other end of the alley just went out," he told her, pointing towards the opposite end of the alleyway. Sure enough, it was bathed in darkness as well.
"Oh crap," she commented, biting her lip.

Blink inhaled snow and jerked awake, coughing. His throat hurt, his head ached, and he couldn't breathe. His sleeping in the snow had made him sick. He sneezed and then coughed again, unaware of David and Lucky's reappearance.
